The definition of new media art refers to a wide range of approaches centered on the use of the latest technology most often associated with scientific context. The art practices characterized by this term are often complex, and some scholars may argue hybrid, however, their prime achievement is unraveling the intriguing results of merging disciplines that seem impossible to match. Despite the remarkable legacy with experiments developed by Max Bill, the founder of kinetic art, Laszlo Moholy Nagy, and few others during the interwar period, new media art reached its peak in the early 1960s. This generation of artists was equally interested in breaking the limits of the chosen media while articulating it in regards to social and political shifts happening on a global scale. The most prominent female practitioner at the time and a genuine pioneer of new media art is Lynn Hershman Leeson.
