What does photography even mean anymore as the 21st century deepens and we find ourselves overwhelmed by a flood of images, both still and video? Maybe the Museum of Modern Art show “XL: 19 New Acquisitions in Photography,” which opens on May 10, can give us a clue or two. It’s meant to assess photography’s role in contemporary art — and maybe in our lives.
